The long-awaited Summer Holidays are nearly here! All parents want the best experience possible for their kids. As educators, linguists, and parents ourselves, we at Spell Languages have built a Summer Camp Program that brings everything a kid could want. Central to Geneva, we offer camps in English and French, including immersive and fun adventures, carefully selected themes, passionate and creative teachers, daily outings to local sites, games in the park, arts and crafts activities, songs, stories, and much more!
Week 7 Weekly Theme: Design Startup
During the week from August 10th to August 14th, campers take on the role of young design entrepreneurs. They begin by exploring real-world needs and identifying problems they care about — from how we live and move, to what we wear, use, and interact with daily. From there, they develop their own “startup,” choosing a focus such as product design, fashion, architecture, or transport. Through cycles of brainstorming, prototyping, branding, and user testing, they learn how design connects creativity with purpose and impact. Ideas are tested, reworked, challenged, and improved in ways that keep curiosity and engagement at the center. Their ideas evolve through feedback, reflection, and iteration, culminating in a final concept or prototype presented at the “design fair” where their work is shared not just as creative output, but as meaningful, thoughtful innovation.
Immersive Language Play
Campers will use language in a creative, practical way as they turn ideas into designs, discuss possibilities, and collaborate like young innovators. As they explore different ways of building, improving, and presenting their work, they will naturally develop the vocabulary to explain their thinking and share their creative decisions.
Daily Activities
Campers will discover different ways of designing, building, and problem-solving through activities such as...
- join the invention convention and invent something to solve a ridiculous problem;
- pitch your ideas in “Shark Tank: Kids Edition,” presenting inventions to a panel of creative judges;
- explore products that failed in real life, analyzing what went wrong and redesigning them into better, smarter solutions.
Daily Crafts
Campers will transform their ideas into creative designs and inventions through hands-on projects such as...
- design a city from recycled materials, turning everyday waste into buildings, streets, and urban spaces;
- design futuristic fashion;
- design tiny interiors, creating detailed miniature rooms and living spaces;
- design a video game out of cardboard, turning ideas, rules, and levels into a playable world.
Daily Outings
Each day, campers will head out to explore design in the real world through inspiring visits: they will take part in the “Faire Avec” atelier, join the “Ma Ville, Mon Amour” and Apple workshops, and explore the iconic architecture of La Tulipe.
