The long-awaited Summer Holidays are nearly here! All parents want the best experience possible for their kids. As educators, linguists, and parents ourselves, we at Spell Languages have built a Summer Camp Program that brings everything a kid could want. Central to Geneva, we offer camps in English, French, and German, including immersive and fun adventures, carefully selected themes, passionate and creative teachers, daily outings to local sites, games in the park, arts and crafts activities, songs, stories, and much more!
Week 6 Weekly Theme: Behind the Scenes
What if cinema isn’t just something you watch, but something you can actually learn to control and create? Throughout the week from August 3rd to August 7th, campers step into filmmaking as creators, learning how real movies are built — from story structure and character development to camera angles, framing, sound, and editing — while making their own original scenes and short films. They will experiment with directing actors, shooting dramatic sequences, building sets, designing sound effects, and creating trailers that feel like real cinema. By the end of the week, campers will understand how films are constructed behind the scenes and how to use those tools to turn their own ideas into powerful, watchable stories.
Immersive Language Play
Campers will learn language in a creative, hands-on way as they step into the role of filmmakers, using it to plan scenes, give direction, and bring stories to life. As they explore real elements of cinema such as storytelling, dialogue, camera work, and sound, they will naturally build the vocabulary to describe, explain, and shape their own films.
Daily Activities
Throughout the week, campers will explore the art of filmmaking by acting, improvising, and building stories together as a creative film crew, such as:
- compete in a dialogue duel, using limited words or themes to create and perform funny, dramatic, or silly scenes;
- experiment with the stop-motion technique by animating a tiny moment frame by frame;
- explore framing with cardboard viewfinders, testing close-ups, wide shots, and different angles to choose your best shot;
- film dramatic movie trailers with voiceovers.
Daily Crafts
Campers will turn their ideas into visual creations by designing, building, and decorating elements of their own movie world, including…
- create a “script flipbook” by sketching key moments and short lines page by page to visualize the flow of a story;
- design a movie poster for your sequel or prequel using markers, collage, and glitter to attract an audience;
- craft miniature movie sets using cardboard, building and painting tiny worlds.
Daily Outings
Each day, campers will head out to explore storytelling and theater in inspiring real-world settings, with a full-day visit to the MUDAC in Lausanne, followed by creative experiences at Parc Gustave & Léonard Hentsch for movement and stunt practice, an Apple Workshop to explore digital filmmaking and editing, and the Vieille Ville to shoot cinematic scenes.
Camps at Spell Languages also include...
- Free childcare from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. outside the camp hours;
- Discounts available for registrations of 2 weeks or more;
- Sibling discounts that can be combined with discounts on multi-week registrations;
