The long-awaited Summer Holidays are nearly here! All parents want the best experience possible for their kids. As educators, linguists, and parents ourselves, we at Spell Languages have built a Summer Camp Program that brings everything a kid could want. Central to Geneva, we offer camps in English and French, including immersive and fun adventures, carefully selected themes, passionate and creative teachers, daily outings to local sites, games in the park, arts and crafts activities, songs, stories, and much more!
Week 7 Weekly Theme: Design Playground
The week from the August 10th to August 14th, the playground becomes a journey through different worlds of design where each area opens a new way of seeing, making, and transforming the world around us. Campers move through a landscape of design experiences, where curiosity leads the way and every experience begins with a question. Using materials like blocks, fabric, clay, recycled objects, light, and natural elements, children start to see patterns in how things are built and how they can be transformed. They build, reshape, combine, and reinvent, not following instructions, but following curiosity. There are no fixed outcomes, only exploration, experimentation, and meaning making. The week concludes with a “design fair”, where campers share their creations and explorations, showing how their ideas grew through play, discovery, and imagination.
Immersive Language Play
The playground becomes a lens for discovery: a space where campers use a new language to test ideas through play, movement, building, rearranging, and imagining. As they explore different forms of design, they will naturally develop the vocabulary to describe, explain, and share their creations.
Daily Activities
Campers will discover different ways of designing, building, and problem-solving through activities such as...
- become nature architects, building with sticks, stones, and natural materials;
- go on a barefoot texture walk across different surfaces;
- build the tallest tower in teams and test its strength;
- face the “builders vs. the storm” challenge and protect your creations from disasters.
Daily Crafts
Campers will transform their ideas into creative designs and inventions through hands-on projects such as...
- design and build your own tiny cardboard house;
- create and test paper boats and planes, then see how far they can go;
- invent and decorate your own silly glasses;
- design a personalized cardboard photo frame.
Daily Outings
Each day, campers will head out to explore design in the real world through inspiring visits: they will take part in the “Faire Avec” atelier, join the “Ma Ville, Mon Amour” and Apple workshops, and explore the iconic architecture of La Tulipe.
