The long-awaited Summer Holidays are nearly here! All parents want the best experience possible for their kids. As educators, linguists, and parents ourselves, we at Spell Languages have built a Summer Camp Program that brings everything a kid could want. Central to Geneva, we offer camps in English and French, including immersive and fun adventures, carefully selected themes, passionate and creative teachers, daily outings to local sites, games in the park, arts and crafts activities, songs, stories, and much more!
Week 7 Weekly Theme: Design Atelier
During the week from August 10th to August 14th your children will step into a vibrant design atelier: a hands-on studio where creativity, curiosity, and playful experimentation guide every project. The space is filled with materials, sketches, tools, and prototypes, inviting children to explore how everyday objects are designed, built, and re-imagined. Working in teams, they sketch ideas, build prototypes, test them, and refine their designs based on what they discover. Challenges are open-ended and playful: how can we make this stronger, more useful, more surprising, or just more fun? The week ends with a “design fair”, where they present their creations, prototypes, and design journeys, sharing not only what they made but how their ideas evolved along the way. Campers learn that great design grows through exploration and that fun is an essential part of thinking like a designer.
Immersive Language Play
Campers will use language in a collaborative and experimental way as they design, build, and test ideas together. Children move naturally between making, trying, and improving, while building the vocabulary to explain their choices, share feedback, and describe their creations.
Daily Activities
Campers will discover different ways of designing, building, and problem-solving through activities such as...
- become architects and builders: one describes a creation and the others bring it to life without seeing the original;
- take on the “fix it challenge” and transform broken or objects into improved new designs;
- go on a design treasure hunt, searching for hidden materials, shapes, and clues to unlock creative building missions.
Daily Crafts
Campers will transform their ideas into creative designs and inventions through hands-on projects such as...
- create fashion designs from fabric scraps, transforming leftover materials into unique wearable creations;
- design and build your own cardboard robot;
- sculpt and decorate a handmade photo frame with clay;
- create a bead maze design, exploring pattern and structure.
Daily Outings
Each day, campers will head out to explore design in the real world through inspiring visits: they will take part in the “Faire Avec” atelier, join the “Ma Ville, Mon Amour” and Apple workshops, and explore the iconic architecture of La Tulipe.
